Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 topical past papers

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) is a two-year course usually taken at around age 14 to 16, and a basis for further study, including AS & A Level Mathematics. Core and Extended share the same content areas: number, algebra and graphs, coordinate geometry, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, transformations and vectors, probability, and statistics. The Extended content goes further within each area, adding material such as surds, algebraic fractions, functions, differentiation, the sine and cosine rules, vector geometry, conditional probability and histograms.

Revising Mathematics 0580 by topic

Candidates are entered for one of two tiers. Core candidates sit Paper 1 and Paper 3, set on the Core content; Extended candidates sit Paper 2 and Paper 4, set on the Extended content. In each tier the first paper is taken without a calculator and the second requires a scientific calculator, and the two carry equal weight. Every paper mixes structured and unstructured questions and includes a list of formulas. The non-calculator papers arrived with the current syllabus, which covers examinations from 2025 to 2027.

  • Older Paper 1 and Paper 2 questions were written for short-answer papers on which calculators were allowed. They remain good topic practice, but when you prepare for the non-calculator papers, skip any that need a calculator and do the rest by hand.
  • Matrices and linear programming appear in Momentum's chapter list but have left the syllabus, so leave those chapters aside. Vectors are now Extended content only, so Core candidates can set the Vectors chapter aside too.
  • Use the paper filter to match your tier: Papers 1 and 3 for Core, Papers 2 and 4 for Extended. Extended candidates also need chapters that Core papers do not examine, such as functions, differentiation and histograms.
  • The Number Facts chapter gathers short questions on types of number, factors, multiples, primes and similar basics. They suit brief practice sessions without a calculator, which is how the non-calculator papers test them.
  • Structured questions often run several parts through one context, such as a solid that leads from mensuration into trigonometry. Once single topics are secure, use the mock exam builder to combine chapters such as Mensuration, Trigonometry and Similarity in one paper.

Practising in Momentum

  • Every question in a chapter as one list, from every paper and year in the bank, newest first or shuffled.
  • Each question turns over to its own part of the mark scheme, where the board published one.
  • Narrow by paper, year, session, zone and marks, and star the questions worth keeping.
  • Pick chapters, a number of questions and a time, and the exam builder draws a mock to sit and mark.

Past-paper questions and mark schemes are the copyright of Cambridge International. Momentum shows them to signed-in learners for revision and does not publish them on these pages.
